This is one of the best races I have ever taken part in. The start/finish area was well organised with free massages on offer. The baggage vans were so close to the start I could keep my jacket on until the very last minute. There were almost enough loos to go round and there was even food of some description on sale for the supporters.
The course was challenging but the gorgeous scenery made up for it. At one point I had a horse galloping through its field next to me. The other runners were friendly and there was a really nice atmosphere. After an uphill start we soon left the town and headed off towards the Ridgeway under the M4 and that was it until the last couple of miles, beautiful country lanes and pretty villages. There was good support along the way with an ample supply of jelly babies on offer and well spaced water stations. I think I even spotted a couple of loos.
The course was challenging but not as challenging as Dartford. The first half of the course was essentially up with some flats and the second half down with some flats. The downhills were long, fairly steep and great fun! I'm trying to forget the ups (seriously none were that bad). I was really pleased with my time which whilst not a PB, it was better than I expected considering the course and my total lack of hill training! I was glad I knew about the Marlborough Road incline at the end, it really helped to be prepared and hold something back for it. The final downhill 400m allowed a sprint to the line.
While there was a sign for a changing area I couldn't find it (didn't try that hard) I went to the local Croft Sports Centre and they let me use the facilities to shower before heading home.
All in all the race represented good value for money, nice, interesting course, friendly and well organised, a 10/10 from me. They even manage to organise some pretty fabulous weather!
