Dennis :
Pros: Local so not much to pay in fares, race held on closed roads, reasonable crowd support. Technical T-Shirt. 14 Music bands on course.
Cons: £46 entry. Water in plastic cups that the water stations could not replenish quick enough. No foil blankets, sustenance or goody bag at the end, long queues to retrieve bag after race while cold. Medal thrown at you still in plastic bag wrapper. Championchip laced through trainers so difficult to remove after 13.1 miles. DJ’s playing inappropriate music with young children present. Long wait for results. No text result as promised. Results website crashed on evening after race. Course overcrowded as they allowed 3500 more entries than last year. (Did they think 3500 people would drop out? not at £46 they won’t-They will resell their entries!)
I have done every one of these bar the first one, And although I have always known it was a commercial race to make money I have always enjoyed them being local and easy to get to, This year the organisers tried to profit so much they made the race dangerous by not providing foil blankets or sustenance at the finish even though the race was held a month later at the end of October rather than the end of September due to the Olympics. RTTB have received a lot of negative comments regarding this race (rightly so in my opinion!) and said they have taken them onboard for 2013 but I am not prepared to pay £46 to find out! The 2013 event will have to receive rave reviews for me to return in 2014. There are much better half marathons out there for a lot less money! (Ealing being a classic example) Unless this race improves drastically in 2013 I would say "Don’t waste your money!"

I really enjoyed this race it was well organised with a no queue bag drop, plenty of toilets and bottled water available before the start which was appreciated. The staggered starts meant you had room to run in the first mile or so and the crowd support was excellent with plenty of music bands on the course.
The race was televised live on channel 5! The goody bag was also excellent and contained your medal and t-shirt. There were free post race massages available which I took advantage of and it has really eased my ongoing calf strain. This was a good value race which I intend to do again in 2013! I do however have to end this report on a very sad note, at the finish a runner collapsed and later died in hospital and my condolences go out to his family and friends, This tragedy marred what was an otherwise excellent race.
